Hola!
Sorry I haven't been able to update you on the preparations of my trip to Costa Rica. Before I left this morning, I had to write a 5 page paper about Macaws and a 10 page paper about fisheries and the tragedy of the commons. That and the holidays took up quite a bit of my time.
But anyways, I'm here now! I left for the airport around 3 o'clock in the morning for my flight at 6 from Cleveland to Atlanta. Then, around 10 my flight left for San Jose. (San Jose is 1 hour behind.) We arrive around 1 (local time). The first thing you see when you walk out of the gate is a wall of windows showing the mountains and volcanoes that surround the valley that San Jose sits in. It was absolutely breathtaking. (The picture above doesn't even do it justice!) We had to wait on people in our group with later flights, so we went to a fast food restaurant, RostiPollos (but it's actually good fast food!). We then took a walk just to stretch our legs and saw some parakeets. It's crazy to see them in the wild. Once we had everyone, we began our journey to the Guayabo Lodge which was about 3 hours away by bus from San Jose. Our bus driver was definitely impressive! The fog was thick and the road twists and turns all over the place. But we made it all in one piece! The lodge is beautiful. We ate dinner here as well, the food was really good! I believe the sunrise will be amazing with the surrounding grounds.
Well that's it for now! Another start to an amazing adventure that I can't believe I get to have.
Adios!
Kirsten
P.S. My lovely father got me a GoPro for Christmas so I will be fiddling around with that and hopefully get the hang of it soon. I'm not sure when I'll be able to update you because we are not sure when we will have wifi down here. But, I will be keeping track of each day so don't you worry, there will be plenty of posts!
P.S.S. As per usual, if there is a mistake, just ignore it! I'm doing this with only 4 hours of sleep.
