Hello,
A week ago I began my internship with White & Case in New York City. I arrived on Sunday from Cleveland. I met the other intern, David, at the hotel and then we walked around Midtown. Monday and Tuesday we were in meetings from 9 am to 3:30 pm. After work, we were allowed to go explore. They also gave us all of Wednesday off before we left for the Philippines on Thursday.
I have been to NYC before so I was up for going anywhere. Our time there was quite short since we only had around 3 days in all, but we definitely made the most of it! When we were in our meetings, the heads of the departments would give us tips and their must sees of New York.
We tended to go to the super touristy places but they are definitely on my must see list of NYC too! They include:
Roosevelt Hotel – Where we stayed in NYC. It’s a New York staple and even if you don’t stay there, their rooftop bar is amazing.
Grand Central Station
Times Square – There are so many people and it is quite the mess but everyone has to see it once.
Junior’s Cheesecake – Some of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had!
Broadway – We got to see “An American in Paris.” The music was absolutely fantastic. It made you feel as if you were transported to another time.
Rockefeller Center
5th Avenue
Central Park
Metropolitan Museum of Art
Brooklyn Bridge
One World Trade Center – The views were impeccable. You truly could #seeforever.
Hudson River
Ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island – You get to see the Statue of Liberty up close and personal. The views looking back at Lower Manhattan are wonderful. Ellis Island gives you chills from all of the history you encounter.

Thursday at noon we left NYC for the Philippines. Around 18 hours of travel later and we made it to the Philippines around 8 pm local time (Friday). For everyone that is wondering, the Philippines are 12 hours ahead of Eastern Time in the US, which means that I am talking to you from the future. How about that? We have been in the Philippines for two days now. Our apartments are located in Makati City which is kind of like a suburb of Manila. One of the largest malls in the world is right down the street. But other than that we haven’t gotten to adventure out very much because of the jet lag and the weather (it was pouring down rain all day today). I begin work tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how that goes. I am very excited to start! Also, hopefully this weekend we will get to travel to a beach! I’ll keep you updated on work and my travels!
Talk to you soon,
Kirsten
