The last week of my internship has come and gone. It is quite bittersweet. We finished up shadowing departments last week and were in HR this week to write our reflection papers. Last weekend was also our final full weekend in the Philippines. We decided to do day trips rather than having to pay for another plane ticket and hotel stay. Luckily the rainy season hasn't been to bad during our stay allowing us to see everything we had planned. Our first stop was on Saturday at Corregidor Island. We went with a couple of our coworkers from Finance, Steph and Keith. The trip begins with an hour long ferry ride from the Manila Bay to the island. This island is packed with history, from Spanish colonialism to World War II. It was a key location for the Allies when the Japanese invaded the Philippines in 1941. It quickly became the headquarters of the Allied forces, under the command of General MacArthur and Lieutenant General Wainwright, and the seat of the Filippino Commonwealth government. The island changed hands a few times. The guns and ruins left behind now stand silent telling a moving story of WWII. Sunday, we had a full day tour of Manila, which included: American Cemetery and Memorial Intramuros - the Walled City and Fort Santiago Jose Rizal Park Manila Cathedral San Agustin Church Casa Manila It was a great way to end our trip. I cannot believe the internship has come to an end. I have met so many wonderful people, learned so much about the interworking of a law firm, and have seen a beautiful country! Sunday, I will be leaving for the US, where I have my last individual horse show for a while and will begin my senior year of college. How the time flies! There is about to be a lot of change coming up in my life but I am ready to meet it head on. I cannot wait to see what is in store for me next! Check back every once in a while to see what I'm up to! Talk to you soon, Kirsten | |
