Olá!
This weekend was my final weekend of traveling and I visited Lisbon, Portugal! Our flight flew directly out of Luxembourg on Friday, the 1st. (Which is actually a holiday over here that celebrates those who work, May Day. It is also quite inconvenient because everything is closed.. But that's okay!) The flight over Portugal was so pretty. There were so many little valleys and mountains and hills surrounding them. Wind turbines dotted the landscape. We got to our hostel, Home Lisbon Hostel, around 8:30 pm. We were staying in the old part of Lisbon and walked around the area. We were starving so we found somewhere to eat. I had sardine bruschetta and sangria. It was a good way to get a feel of the city.

Saturday, we had a beach day! Gabby and I took the metro towards Caicais. We got off at Carcavelos Beach. I found it online, it is one of the most popular and the easiest to get to by public transportation. We got there around 9:30 in the morning. We sunbathed almost the entire time. We did go get lunch and ice cream. Of course, I got burnt. AND I ACTUALLY USED SUNSCREEN! It was really fun though and a great way to relax before finals! After we came back from the beach, we cleaned up and got ready for dinner. We went to this really great local place, Cantinho do Avillez. All of the food has an international twist on it. The simple decor let the food speak for itself. I had scallops (that were cooked perfectly!) with potatoes, asparagus, and tomatoes. I also had chocolate cake with strawberry ice cream. It was all so delicious! Afterwards, we walked through the streets and went to the Comercio Square. Then we went to get drinks. It was a really fun day!
The weather on Sunday was definitely not as good as the day before. It was rainy and windy. But it never actually down poured which was good! We did the Tagus Tour through Yellow Bus. It allowed you to hop on and off as you pleased. There were 21 stops in total. It took us all over the old part of Lisbon and down by the riverfront. We got to see things like the Tower of Belem, Basilica Estrela, Monument to the Discoveries, and so much more! Then we walked around Comercio Square and saw all the vendors. We got lunch there too! I had a Portuguese codcake, which Lisbon is known for cod! Then we went back to the hostel and relaxed and did homework for awhile. We decided to go to the Hard Rock Cafe which was just what we needed. We were starving and had burgers with fries and a side of mac and cheese. It was so yummy and hit the spot.
Lisbon was a great place to go for the last weekend. It was relaxing but still really fun. The hostel we stayed in was the best I've stayed in Europe, which is definitely saying something! Lisbon isn't a place that is super touristy which is what I've found that I like more now. It is one thing to go and see what a place is known for but you don't really get the real "vibe" of the city until you walk around the neighborhoods and talk to the people.
Talk to you soon,
Kirsten
P.S. Sorry this was so short (and if there are tons of errors), I am so exhausted right now!
P.S.S. Only 10 days left, but don't worry there will be plenty more posts before I come back to the good ole USA!
