I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! Mine were lovely, a little hectic - but who's aren't? Anyway, on the Tuesday after Christmas, my parents and I left for a small trip to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. It is a 4 hour car ride from my home in Northeastern Ohio. We left early that morning so that we would have at least half of Tuesday in Canada. We left on Thursday morning, because the weather in the snow belt was supposed to create very poor driving conditions. But the 48 hours we had was the perfect amount to explore this natural wonder!
Since we went during the winter, most of the outdoor recreational activities were closed due to the cold and ice. However, we still found plenty to do! The Ontario Power Generation Company puts on a holiday light display, where they put Christmas lights and decorations all over Queen Victoria Park. The Falls themselves are also dressed for the occasion where gorgeous colors are projected onto the falls with lights during the night. And, since it was the week between Christmas and New Years' Eve, there are fireworks every night at 9 pm!
The daytime also allowed for some adventure as we walked along the Niagara River, we came across some of old power generation buildings built during the early 1900s with gorgeous (and slightly eerie - depending on the light) architecture and the Floral Showcase. Since it was the winter months, there were hardly any visitors compared to what I'm sure feels like millions during the summer. We were able to walk right up to the Falls and see them from the observation deck. We didn't even have to wait for someone to move to be able to see them.
My dad is afraid of heights, so just my mom and I travel up Skylon Tower for a bird's eye view of the surrounding area! I felt as if I could see forever. It was really cool to be able to see where the water begins and where it travels to plummet over the falls!
It was an amazing trip, that I'm so glad I did! I would highly suggest going to see the Falls during off season!
Talk to you soon!
